The newest national park

Getting over the flu–and trapped by a mega-snowstorm in Grants, New Mexico! I had planned to do a few short but amazing hikes nearby but no time now on the outbound trip. I’ll try again on the way back.

But thinking of all that I’m missing reminds me of home, and all the I take for granted.

I live in a town surrounded by a National Park. Or at least that is the case since last week when the National Park Service took possession of the Rancho Corral de Tierra, nearly four thousand acres abutting the towns of Montara, Moss Beach and El Granada, just south of San Francisco. The land was purchased by a private preservation organization and then slowly transferred to the federal government. It was once slotted for a housing development and a golf course. It would have made a heck of a golf course.

I’m not able to access my own library of photos of the Rancho Corral de Tierra bave a look at a selection of photos of the new addition on Flikr.
